My CES Speaking Experience

I had the pleasure of sitting on a “Content in the Cloud” (CITC) panel put on by the DCIA (Distributed Computing Industry Association) at this Year’s CES. The topic was Consumer Electronics (CE) Manufacturer Benefits and Drawbacks of Cloud-Delivered Content.

The panelists were:  Mr. Christopher Allen, GM, Digital Entertainment Services, Best Buy; Mr. Stefan Bewley, Director, Altman Vilandrie & Company; Mr. Thomas Coughlin, Founder, Coughlin Associates; Mr. David Frerichs, Strategic Consultant, Pioneer Corporation; Mr. Murray Galbraith, CEO, Youneeq; Mr. Wayne Josel, New Media, Entertainment & Technology, Hughes Hubbard & Reed. Dr. Egil Juliussen, Principal Analyst-Infotainment & ADAS, HIS Automotive; Ms. Linda Senigaglia, Senior Director of Product Marketing, Navigation Solutions.

There was quite a diverse set of industry sectors represented, each with its own unique perspective. Some of the topics covered: did remotely accessing applications and data have implications for elements that must be integrated into networked end-user devices?  What about servers and other edge storage hardware products? What new hurdles must be overcome with these technological solutions?

As you could imagine, this led to some lively conversation and interesting viewpoints. My viewpoints focused mainly around creating the best user experience possible, monetization and privacy issues.

If you haven’t been to CES I highly suggest you go, especially the conference within the conference “Content in the Cloud” put on by the DCIA. Marty Lafferty (President & Founder) puts together an excellent forum where industry thought leaders can get together and discuss key topics and issues facing companies who do business in the “Cloud.”
